The Eyebrow Guide
Everything you need to know about brow shaping at SKINHAMPTON
The Power of a Great Brow Shape
The right brow shape can lift the eyes, create facial balance, and completely change the way someone looks and feels. Before any color, before any product, shape alone is transformative. It is one of the most underestimated services in beauty, and one of my favorite things to do. Brow shaping is a complete art form in its own right.
Brows as Identity
Eyebrows are one of the most expressive parts of the human face. They play a central role in how we convey emotion, how we are perceived, and how we present ourselves to the world.
For many people, brows are tied to identity in a meaningful way. They can be an expression of cultural heritage, where certain shapes and styles carry significance across communities and traditions. They can be part of gender expression. The brow bone plays a role in how gender is perceived in the face, and shaping can be part of how someone aligns their appearance with their identity. For others, brows are simply personal style, as individual as anything else about the way you present yourself.
I will never assume what you want based on how you look. Whether your brows carry deep personal meaning or you simply want to look great, both are equally valid, and both get the same customized care from me.
The Art of Brow Shape
The most beautiful brow is not the most trendy brow or the brow shape you saw on someone else. It is the one that works in harmony with your specific face.
Different brow shapes create very different effects. A higher arch reads as lifted and defined, and can make the eyes appear more open and awake. A softer, rounder arch feels gentle, and suits a wide range of face shapes. A straighter brow with minimal arch has a modern, editorial quality. A fuller, bolder brow celebrates natural texture and density, and can be incredibly striking and dramatic. A more refined and tailored brow suits clients who prefer a clean, sleek look.
What I am always working toward, regardless of the style, is facial harmony. The goal is not perfect symmetry. No one's face is perfectly symmetrical, and chasing it can actually create imbalance. What matters is that your brows feel proportionate to your features and balanced in a way that makes your whole face feel cohesive. The right shape can create a subtle lifting effect, open up the eyes, and bring an overall sense of equilibrium that is hard to put into words but is immediately visible in the mirror.
My Philosophy: Artist and Collaborator
I approach every brow appointment as both a trained artist and a collaborator.
As an artist, I bring years of professional experience, an eye for proportion, and genuine care for this work. I notice things about your face and brow structure that most people have never considered, and I use that to create something that works specifically for you.
As a collaborator, I believe consent and communication are fundamental. Your eyebrows are yours, and you are always in charge of what happens to them.
In practice, that means we talk before I do anything. We discuss what you like about your brows, what you would like to change, and what you are hoping to walk away with. Some clients arrive with a clear vision and specific requests. Others sit down and say, "just do whatever you think looks good." Both approaches are completely welcome, and both get the same quality of result. You do not need to have strong feelings about eyebrows to get great brows.
What I will always do, no matter how much or how little direction you give me, is show you the shape I have mapped before a single hair is removed. You will have a mirror and the opportunity to give feedback. In my experience, most clients look at what I have drawn and say "perfect." But that consent moment matters to me, so I will never skip it.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Every appointment begins with a consultation. We talk about your brow goals, your concerns, and anything relevant to your skin or health history. Then you settle in on my treatment bed, which is cozy and designed for relaxation. Most of the appointment is spent lying down, and it is a much more calming experience than you might expect. A “brow nap” is a common occurrence.
From there, I map the brows. Using string, pencils, and a caliper, I measure the angles and proportions of your face and draw the intended shape directly onto your skin. At this stage, I may ask you to sit up briefly so I can check the balance from a different angle. Then I hand you a mirror. We look at the plan together, and I make any adjustments before moving forward.
Once the shape is approved, I begin hair removal. I use a vegan, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and antimicrobial soft wax, which is gentle enough for sensitive skin. Tweezing takes care of any fine-tuning, and small scissors handle any trimming. To finish, I apply either a skin-soothing product or a concealer with SPF, which helps protect the freshly waxed skin and covers any redness so you walk out looking polished.
Appointments are booked for 40 minutes. Depending on your hair growth and the complexity of your shape, the service itself can take anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes.
A Few Things to Know Before You Book
Brow waxing is a very safe service. I use high-quality professional products to ensure your safety and skin health. If you are using a strong retinoid, have recently had a chemical peel or resurfacing treatment, or have any skin sensitivities in the brow area, we may do tweezing instead of waxing, which achieves equally beautiful results. We will go over anything relevant during your consultation.
After Your Appointment
Some redness after waxing is completely normal. It can last anywhere from a couple of hours to the rest of the day, and it is not a cause for concern. If it is daytime, I will apply a concealer with SPF before you leave to protect the skin and keep you looking your best.
For the rest of the day, avoid heat and heavy sweating. This means skipping intense workouts and saunas for 24 hours.
Between appointments, please resist the urge to tweeze. Tweezing disrupts the hair growth cycle and makes it harder to maintain a consistent, clean shape over time. I recommend coming back every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how quickly your hair grows.
